REAL-TIME PCR
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is an important molecular diagnostic technique for the identification of infectious pathogens, viral load testing and the detection of inherited and acquired human genetic disorders.
PCR allows for the exponential amplification of a target fragment of DNA. The primers used are complementary to the target sequence of each of the DNA strands; DNA polymerase extends the primer to copy the designated sequence.
Real-Time PCR allows the monitoring of the PCR reaction in real time. This is measured by quantifying the fluorescence emitted from a specific reporter probe, which accumulates with the amplification of the PCR product. An increase in Reporter fluorescent signal is directly proportional to amplification of PCR product |
